About Thistledo Equine Retreat
With a long standing reputation in racehorse training and breeding, our yard has been an established part of the equestrian community for many years. As we scale back our own horse numbers, we now have part of the yard and stabling available and are launching a new venture from the same site.
We specialise in full livery, rest, rehabilitation, and recuperation for horses in need of recovery or downtime. Our experienced team also offers tailored fitness and conditioning programmes—ideal for pre-race preparation, hunting horses, and those returning to work—as well as professional breeding services supported by purpose-built facilities.
For owners seeking longer-term options, blocks of high-quality stabling are available to rent within a calm, secure, and expertly managed environment.

Full Livery Services
We offer full livery on site, providing a comprehensive daily care package to ensure your horse’s comfort, health, and well-being. Our service includes mucking out, daily turnout and bringing in, or use of the horse walker as appropriate. Hay and a basic feed ration are included, along with one bale of shavings or straw per week.
Fields are hoovered to maintain cleanliness, and we can accommodate routine farrier and physiotherapy visits as required, under your direction.
Riding can be added for an additional fee, as can a tailored fitness programme if needed. Every horse is different, so we are happy to create a bespoke package to suit the individual needs of you and your horse.
Fitness Training
Thanks to our exceptional facilities and experienced team, we offer tailored livery packages focused on bringing horses back to peak fitness. Whether you’re preparing hunters or eventers for the season, or returning racehorses to work following rest and recuperation, we can help get them well on their way to full fitness before returning to their trainers.
Horses on fitness livery are ridden six days a week, with Sundays reserved for rest, ensuring a structured and consistent routine that supports gradual, safe conditioning.
Rest & Rehabilitation
Thanks to our outstanding facilities and decades of experience, we offer specialist rest and recuperation livery tailored to each horse’s needs. Options include full box rest, box rest with controlled exercise on the horse walker, or limited turnout in a small, secure paddock depending on veterinary guidance and the stage of recovery.
We are highly experienced in managing post-injury rehabilitation and offer on-site castration with follow-up care. Our horse walkers allow us to reintroduce exercise gradually and safely, tailored to the individual, while the Zamar ice therapy machine supports recovery from a wide range of injuries including those affecting the legs, shoulders, and stifles.
Our trusted team of vets, physios, and farriers work closely together to ensure every horse receives the highest level of care. With a proven track record of success, we are proud to support horses on their journey back to full health and performance.
Flexible Box Rentals
We are open to offering individual box rentals on an as-available basis.
For those seeking a more private or long-term arrangement, we also welcome enquiries for block rentals, ideally in groups of six stables to maintain an exclusive and well managed environment.
Grass Livery
We offer full grass livery all year round, providing a natural and relaxed environment for horses to thrive. All fields are well-maintained with excellent fencing and are equipped with shelters to ensure protection and comfort in all weather conditions.
This is a great option for horses enjoying downtime, retirees, or those suited to outdoor living.
Breeding / Youngstock
With over 17 years of hands-on experience, we have a purpose-built facility dedicated to breeding and youngstock management. We are happy to take mares for covering, foaling, and breeding livery, offering expert care in a calm and secure environment.
We also offer preparation services for youngstock heading to sales, whether for sport horse or racehorse markets, ensuring they are well-handled, correctly presented, and in peak condition.
